PlatformCon 2026

Spec-first OpenAPI descriptions drive code, tests, docs, and gateways.

PlatformCon 2026
Virtual, NYC, London
Online conference

I’m speaking at PlatformCon 2026, a virtual conference for platform engineers, on how treating an OpenAPI description as an executable contract changes the entire delivery model from code generation to gateway configuration to breaking-change detection.

Presentation

Spec-Driven APIs Accelerate Delivery

APIs are a platform primitive, and how you design and manage them shapes everything downstream. In this session, I’ll walk through what it means to treat an OpenAPI description as the source of truth, not just documentation you write after the fact.

When the spec comes first, it becomes an executable contract the whole delivery pipeline can depend on:

  • Code generation – SDKs and server stubs generated from the spec, not hand-rolled against it.
  • Test scaffolding – Contract tests wired to the OpenAPI description so you know exactly when behavior drifts.
  • Documentation – Always in sync, because it’s derived from the same artifact the team already maintains.
  • Gateway configuration – Policies, routing, and rate limits driven from the spec rather than configured by hand.
  • Breaking-change detection – Automated checks in CI that catch incompatible changes before they reach production.

The goal is to shift quality left without slowing teams. By standardizing on the contract and letting pipelines and platform tooling handle the repetitive work, you reduce the coordination overhead that usually comes with API changes.

The session catalog isn’t live yet, but you can check for it at the program page as it fills in:

Event Highlights

  • Five days of talks focused on platform engineering, internal developer platforms, and DevOps practices.
  • Sessions from practitioners building real internal developer platforms at scale.
  • A strong track on APIs, automation, and shifting quality left.
  • The virtual format means there’s no travel required. It’s easy to attend and catch recordings on-demand.
